Anal & Genital Warts

Anal and genital warts are small growths in the genital or anal region caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). They are considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and can appear as single or multiple lesions. While not usually life-threatening, they can cause discomfort, itching, or pain if untreated.

Treatments

Topical Medications – Creams or solutions to shrink or remove warts over time.
Cryotherapy – Freezing warts with liquid nitrogen for removal.
Laser Treatment – Safe and precise removal of stubborn or multiple warts.
Surgical Excision – Minor surgery to cut out larger or resistant warts.
Electrocautery – Burning off warts using controlled electric current.

Symptoms and Causes

Symptoms:

Small, flesh-colored or gray bumps in anal/genital area
Itching, discomfort, or irritation
Bleeding during bowel movements (in anal warts)
Clusters of warts resembling cauliflower growths

Causes:

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection – main cause
Unprotected sexual contact with infected partner
Weak immune system
Multiple sexual partners increasing risk of HPV

Prevention

Practice safe sex by using protection
Limit number of sexual partners
HPV vaccination for long-term protection
Maintain good personal hygiene
Regular health check-ups for early detection
