Anal Stenosis

Anal stenosis is a condition where the anal canal becomes abnormally narrow due to scar tissue, chronic inflammation, or complications from surgery. This narrowing can make passing stool extremely difficult and painful, and in severe cases may even block normal bowel movements.

Dilatation – Gradual widening of the anal canal using medical instruments.
Surgical Correction – Procedures like anoplasty to reconstruct and widen the anal canal.
Laser Treatment – Minimally invasive option for selected cases to relieve narrowing.

Symptoms and Causes

Symptoms:

Painful or strained bowel movements
Narrow or thin stools
Bleeding during defecation
Sensation of incomplete evacuation
Chronic constipation

Causes:

Scarring from anal surgery (e.g., hemorrhoidectomy)
Chronic inflammation or infection in the anal region
Congenital malformations (present from birth)
Trauma or injury to the anal canal

Maintain a high-fiber diet and adequate hydration
